Fawzi Mesmar, the head of design at Battlefield and Star Wars battle front Franchises, has announced its departure from DICE. Mesmar’s last day in the studio is tomorrow, November 26th, according to an email received by Video Games Chronicle and later confirmed by an Electronic Arts representative.
In his email, Mesmar wrote that he had been made an offer elsewhere that he “couldn’t refuse”. However, he wanted to wait until Battlefield 2042‘s start, and his new employer was “kind enough” to comply with his request. Mesmar also announced that he has been discussing his succession plans with DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson for some time, but has decided to postpone the announcement of his departure to bring the team’s focus on Battlefield 2042‘s start.
The email is:
It has been an absolute pleasure working on the best design teams in the galaxy. The incredible design work you do inspires me every day. Thank you for your trust in me, I hope I have not disappointed.
I was made an offer that I couldn’t refuse from another company that was kind enough to wait for me to ship [Battlefield 2042]. It was very important to me to be here with the team as we reach this historic milestone.
While Oskar and I have been discussing my succession plans for some time – and this will be announced in due course – we have decided to postpone this announcement until after it is published in order to focus – rightly – on the game that we have monumentally put effort on.
Mesmar joined DICE in 2019 and worked on Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V before Battlefield 2042.[Source: VGC]
