The “Massive PlayStation Remake” should be Chrono Cross

Last month rumors surfaced of a “massive PlayStation remake” that was due to be revealed over the holiday season. During the latest XboxEra podcast, renowned leaker Nick “Shpeshal_Nick” Baker announced that he had been notified of the remake Chrono cross. While the original game was released exclusively on the PlayStation console, the remake will reportedly be a multiplatform version.

Chrono cross was one of the games featured in GeForce Now’s major internal database leak that occurred in September. While NVidia later said the list was real, they also said the games might have been placeholders and may not even exist. However, Baker said he heard the rumor about the PlayStation remake Chrono Cross Remastered“And that the game would not be exclusive to PlayStation:

What else I was told – because everyone works under the assumption that it is PlayStation exclusive – I was told that it wasn’t. The only word that was used was “multiplat”. Now when I hear JRPG and Multiplat, I automatically assume that PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my assumption. I wasn’t told that, that’s just my guess. Everything my source said to me was “multiplat”. They said that, they told me it wasn’t PlayStation exclusive.

The rumors began when folk singer Éabha McMahon revealed she had recorded a song for an upcoming “massive” remake of a PlayStation game. She also mentioned that she was with Irish composer Michael McGlynn (Xenoblade Chronicles 2), his wife and daughter Ashlyn on the line. When people started looking deeper, they discovered Chrono cross Composer Yasunori Mitsuda had tweeted a picture of himself with Michael and Ashlyn as they prepared to record music from a distance, which gave more credibility to the latest rumors.

First published in 1999, Chrono cross played in the same world as Chrono trigger. The game features a teenager named Serge who finds himself in an alternate world where he died as a child. With the help of more than 40 other playable characters, he travels through the El Nido archipelago trying to find out the truth about the separation of the two worlds.

Rumors have it that the remake will be announced this holiday season, which could kick off a reveal at The Game Awards 2021 on December 9th. Keep in mind, however, that this is just a rumor for now, so take it with a grain of salt until it’s officially confirmed.
