The Prince of Bel-Air Remake has a new trailer that really borrows from the drama. The new series, just called Bel-AirShe is on her way to see Peacock next year and, according to the teaser published on Tuesday, looks a lot more serious than the original.
Bel-Air will be a darker reinterpretation of the story of the original series, in which a child from West Philadelphia moves to a mansion in Bel-Air. The new teaser even includes a slowed-down, dramatic monologue of the lyrics of the iconic title track.
Of course, the original series was never one that eschewed serious subjects, but it was basically still a sitcom. It appears that Bel-AirThe stories will be more dramatic, and the series will likely feature longer individual episodes.
“Bel-Air will delve deeper into the inherent conflict, emotion, and prejudice that could not possibly be fully explored in a 30-minute sitcom format, while also providing the bragging rights and allusion to the original show, ”the teaser’s YouTube description reads .
Will Smith is executive producer on the new Peacock series, starring Jabari Banks on his first TV show the role that made Smith a superstar. The series will also be Adrian Holmes (Elysium) as Will’s uncle Philip Banks; relative newcomer Olly Sholotan as his cousin Carlton and Cassandra Freeman (Hatch cage) as his aunt Vivian.
Bel-Air will premiere on Peacock sometime in 2022.
