Coincidental: A bunch of tiny pikachus danced around a ten-meter tall pikachu to celebrate the mall’s opening

Usually when you’ve heard the news that a lot of creatures are dancing around a lot, much Larger version of these creatures, you’d be a little worried that some sort of arcane rite is being performed. We cannot say for sure not the case, but at least it’s cute.

As early as November 18, the games industry insider Daniel Ahmad published a few pictures of a mysterious, ten-meter-tall Pikachu in front of a new shopping center in Shanghai. Today the reason for the big boi was revealed: it’s part of a partnership between The Pokémon Company and the grand opening of Songjiang INCITY, and it’s also a totem that the smaller dancing pikachus (which are danced at pretty much every event) around , and sometimes empty) can collect.

It’s all part of a much bigger collaboration with even more major Pokémon, pop-up stores, and special mall events:

As it turns out, Songjiang INCITY is nowhere near the first mall in Shanghai to have a Pokémon connection – there’s also a mall called Metro City that shaped like a poké ball:
