Frogmind to be renamed HypeHype, Supercell invests $ 15 million | Pocket Gamer.biz

Badland developer Frogmind has renamed itself HypeHype, a new platform for user-generated games.

HypeHype provides essential build-time features and tools to enable a seamless transition “from months of complex PC development to hours of visual editing on the go.”

The renaming from Frogmind to HypeHype is intended to “reflect its new vision” as a user-generated content platform.

The new editor from HypeHype is optimized for touchscreens so that developers can focus exclusively on creating games and experiences on their mobile devices.

The platform will support real-time collaborative editing by multiple developers who will be able to “remix” any existing game on HypeHype, such as adding new features, levels, and new mechanics.

A new direction

“Developing a successful game requires a team of people with different skills and development can take months to years,” said HypeHype founder and CEO Johannes Vuorinen.

“We plan to use HypeHype to change that by offering better, easier, and faster game development tools to anyone with a phone.”

Games created with HypeHype are instantly playable in the app or in a web browser and even in other social media apps. In the case of remix games, HypeHype retains full history with transparent ownership.

Teemu Mäki-Patola, COO of HypeHype added, “We believe that HypeHype can empower billions of people to create games and use their creativity to create even triple-A games. Creators will be able to learn quickly, collaborate, and eventually make money from their games. “

To help HypeHype expand the development of the platform, Supercell recently invested around $ 14.6 million.

“We are very excited about the bold and ambitious vision of the HypeHype team to revolutionize the development and play of games,” said Jaakko Harls, Head of Supercell Investments.

“At Supercell, we firmly believe in the power of UGC and offer creators new and innovative ways to be creative.

“Our partnership with Frogmind began in 2016 and we are thrilled and humble to have the opportunity to continue to support her on this new leg of her adventure for years to come.”

The HypeHype app has been in technical early access in the Philippines since spring 2021 and the developers have already created more than 132,000 games with their phones alone.

HypeHype can be downloaded here on iOS and Android devices.
