The RTS genre is one that is quite difficult to find on cell phones. It takes precision and complexity, two things not always associated with touchscreen controls.
That’s not to say that there aren’t some amazing real-time strategy games on the Play Store. In fact, there is more than enough to make a list. That’s exactly what we did here.

A classic of the genre squeezed onto the phone without losing any of what made it great in the first place. Lead your soldiers through a variety of campaigns, fight in a variety of skirmishes, and prove your battlefield moxie during WWII.
This mixes ideas from other genres – namely the roguelike – into an entertaining RTS that is different every time you pick it up. Your island home is being raided and it is up to you to fight back and protect it from the attackers.
An oldie, but a goodie if you have a device that still works on it. Tropical Stormfront draws on the classic era of real-time strategy game, completely blocky graphics and large buttons, and shows you on a series of cards in primary colors. It’s worth stopping by.
Ironhide Games, the developer of the Kingdom Rush series of tower defense games, tried a space RTS with Iron Marines. It works remarkably well by adding some modern mobile sensibilities to the genre while keeping the challenge level just right.
A game full of unit types, campaign phases and network battles. It has something of the old school charm about it, but there’s a modernity here too that keeps things fresh.
Another classic RTS that received mobile treatment. This time you control Roman legions in open battles against a variety of different enemies. There are 19 different factions and the battles here are really epic.
This one adds a PvP twist to the RTS template and throws you into futuristic junk full of lasers and tanks and all those things. If you’re a fan of Command and Conquer or Starcraft, you’ll love this one.
While this is probably the easiest game on the list, it’s a great way to experience RTS fun when you don’t have that much time. It’s a numbers game and throws in a few MOBA and roguelike twists for good measure. Plus, mushrooms are super cool.
Another RTS with a foot in the best parts of the genre’s past. Build your units, send them into battle, and generally have a good old days doing it. There is also multiplayer here.
To top it off, we have another Viking-themed experience. This one doesn’t just focus on violence – there are plenty of other things to consider, from weather to bears looting.
