Nordisk Games Acquires Majority Stake in Star Stable Entertainment | Pocket Gamer.biz

Nordisk Games, based in Copenhagen, has increased its stake in the Swedish game development studio Star Stable Entertainment for an undisclosed amount.

Star Stable Entertainment is the developer of the multiplayer RPG horse adventure game Star Stable Online.

Star Stable Online has over 1.4 million MAUs in 180 countries worldwide and recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Nordisk first acquired Star Stable Entertainment for $ 18 million in May 2018, thereby acquiring a “significant minority stake”. By purchasing additional shares, Nordisk Games’ stake in the company increased to 57 percent.

Star Stable Online for Mobile is currently in the soft launch phase for iOS in Australia, Canada, Turkey and New Zealand and will allow players to sync between the desktop and mobile versions of the game.

At the beginning of the year we spoke to Star Stable CEO Johan Sjöberg about the brand’s path from book club to YouTube.

“True to your vision”

“What we love about Johan and the Star Stable Entertainment team is that they have stayed true to their vision of creating a game that is different from anything else on the market,” said Mikkel Weider, Managing Director of Nordisk Games.

“Not just developing a unique game, but expanding the Star Stable universe with animations, books and more. We’d like to say that we want to partner with studios that have far-reaching and bold visions. I can’t think of a studio that better embodies this approach. “

Johan Sjöberg, CEO of Star Stable Entertainment added: “Nordisk Games has made such a positive impact on the studio and the purchase of additional shares is a great validation of everything we have done so far and our plans for the future.

“The great thing about Nordisk Games’ approach is that they are not interested in controlling what we do, but rather in helping us achieve something special in the long term. So we all look forward to continuing our great collaboration with us. “

Nordisk made its first investment outside of the Nordic region earlier this year, acquiring 40 percent of Spanish developer MercurySteam.
