Overwolf raises $ 75 million in Series D | funding round Pocket Gamer.biz

User-generated content platform Overwolf has raised $ 75 million following a Series D funding round.

The funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz and included the involvement of previous investors including Griffin Gaming Partners, Insight Partners, Intel Capital and others.

Overwolf claims that the industry has entered a “new era of gaming led by community-created experiences” and that this is the key to player satisfaction and the longevity of the game.

The financing increases the company’s total equity to $ 127.5 million in 2021, following a Series C financing round in March that raised $ 52.5 million.

The funds raised will be used to strengthen and expand the Overwolf platform’s in-game creator ecosystem by leveraging its recently launched user-generated content platform CurseForge.

“The future of gaming”

“Community-created experiences are the future of gaming,” said Overwolf co-founder and CEO Uri Marchand.

“No single game studio can match the speed and creativity of a passionate community. Instead of opposing the creations of the community, we’ve seen a shift in perception as leading game studios begin to see the value these developers bring to the community and to the studio itself.

“It is an honor to be able to provide the framework, tools and expertise to usher in this new era of community building.”

In 2021, Overwolf announced it would be giving out $ 29 million to in-game developers, three times more than the year before.

Most recently, cross-platform modding service Mod.io raised $ 26 million following a Series A funding round after forecasting user-generated content to grow 400 percent by 2025.
