Annual US spending on mobile strategy games up 24% | Pocket Gamer.biz

In the past 12 months, consumer spending on mobile strategy games in the US has increased significantly.

According to Sensor Tower, player spend on mobile strategy games reached $ 4.2 billion from November 1, 2020 through October 31, 2021, up 24 percent year over year.

The top game of the genre was the 4X strategy game Lords Mobile from IGG, which grossed $ 330 million.

Second was Supercell’s Clash of Clans, part of the Build and Battle genre, followed by FunPlus’s State of Survival, another 4X title.

Solo strategists

The 4X genre was the top revenue generator for the period, with player spend hitting $ 2.9 billion, up 33 percent from last year

The fastest growing strategy subgenre by revenue was MOBA, with player spend increasing to $ 168.4 million, up over 50 percent year over year.

The 4X subgenre was also the most installed strategy genre with 53.5 million downloads.

MOBA was also the fastest growing subgenre by downloads, rising 133 percent to 19.4 million.

The growth in the MOBA genre is due to the recently released Pokémon Unite and League of Legends: Wild Rift.

During the reporting period, Strategy was the third highest revenue-generating mobile genre, first after Puzzle, followed by Casino second.

Outside the US, monthly player spending on MOBAs has increased 14 percent worldwide, averaging $ 300 million per month, led by Tencent’s Honor of Kings.
