Pretend to be a Japanese businessman of the 80s in STONKS-9800

Developer Ternox has announced STONKS-9800: Stock market simulator, inspired by the Japanese stock market of the 1980s / 90s, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Nintendo Switch and PC. It will be released for PC in the first quarter of 2022 and later in the year for the rest of the platforms.

STONKS-9800 is billed as “a simulator of a businessman on the Japanese stock market in the 1980s and 1990s”. The text-based game will provide a “chill” retro atmosphere while you watch your fantasy stock balloon. The most important functions include:

  • Buy stocks
    • Buy stocks, get dividends, watch the stock price.
    • Your actions affect the market.
    • Keep an eye on your health and don’t overwork yourself lest you end up in the hospital.
  • Capture a retro vibe
    • Mini-games: pachinko and horse racing betting.
    • Relive the Japanese asset price bubble.
    • Meet yakuza.
    • Plan your time.
  • Get Stonks

Ternox is a Ukraine-based solo indie developer.

“It all started in 2008 when I was a teenager downloading Game Maker 6,” an introduction said. “Over the years I dropped this issue a few times, then tried again to create something and that gained skill in GameMaker: Studio.” Ternox also publishes games made with Gamemaker Studio on consoles.

We’ll update our readers when a release date for STONKS-9800: Stock market simulator will be announced.
