As the PlayStation 5 celebrates its first year since its inception today, Sony has told fans that more than 25 different exclusive games are currently being developed at the publisher’s first-party studios.
As part of a festive update post on the PlayStation blog, Sony spoke about the eventful year it has had since the launch of its latest flagship console. “It has been a busy year indeed, and we’re just getting started with PS5,” said Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“The resourceful game developers and publishing partners we work with have released more than 360 games for PS5. In addition, there are currently more than 25 games in development for PS5 at PlayStation Studios. “
While some of these games won’t be available to play for some time – we’re looking at Spider-Man 2 – there is still a lot for PlayStation fans to look forward to. In the next year alone, the publisher will be releasing a number of exclusive blockbuster titles, including Guerilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West, Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 7 and Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok. However, that still leaves a large number of exclusives open.
Sony’s long list of exclusive games is due in part to its activities in the broader development market. After the publisher gathered a number of renowned developers for its PlayStation Studios family, there was no sign of stopping this year. After purchasing Returnal developer Housemarque in June, Sony added additional studios through acquisitions of PC porting specialist Nixxes, British developer Firesprite and remake specialist Bluepoint Games.

Elsewhere in its celebratory blog post, Sony talked about the passion it has seen from its fan base over the past year. The publisher found that PlayStation 5 users have accumulated over 4.6 billion hours of play on their consoles since its release. While that time was spent on a large collection of games, Sony also revealed which ones made it into the top ten most played PS5s.

Ryan also thanks the fans for their patience after a year in which PS5 was extremely difficult to find due to global production bottlenecks. “We continue to see historical demand for PS5 and we know that inventory restrictions remain a source of frustration for many of our customers,” he wrote. “Rest assured that we are focused on doing everything in our power to ship as many units as possible. We work on this every day across the company and remain my top priority. Again, we appreciate your patience while we search them. ” unprecedented global challenges. “
Unfortunately, it’s not a problem that seems to be slowing down, as Sony is reportedly slashing its production plans following a global chip shortage that is currently affecting all areas of gaming.
