To mark the first anniversary of the launch of PlayStation 5, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, visited the PlayStation Blog to look back on the past and the coming year.
Even for a year of feeling like PS5 consoles were hard to find (and still are!), Gamers have taken plenty of time to look at the now-up-to-date Gen device. “PS5 players have combined more than 4.6 billion hours of gameplay on PS5 and broadcast over 26 million hours of content,” boasted Ryan. Undoubtedly, there was an impressive amount of charges on the DualSense controller as well. Along with these impressive stats, Ryan listed the top ten most played games on PS5 in the past year. Some are less surprising, but some launch titles have managed to stay on the list despite some more popular games.
- Fourteen days
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- FIFA 21
- NBA 2K21
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Fate 2
- MLB The Show 21
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Demon souls
- NBA 2K22
It’s great to see Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls hang with the heaviest time sinks like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, especially since they come out on day one with (mostly) single player campaigns.
Jim Ryan also takes a moment to highlight other major Sony exclusive games such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal and Deathloop, as well as recent studio purchases from Bluepoint Games, Firesprite, Housemarque and Nixxes. It gives a glimpse into the future, with megaton releases appearing next year and beyond in God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake. A total of 25 games from Playstation Studios are currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
Despite PlayStation 5’s availability issues, its first year had many current and upcoming reasons to upgrade. That is, if you are lucky enough to find one in the months to come.
