Pokémon GO is the only mobile game nominated for Ultimate Game | Pocket Gamer.biz

As the video game industry turns 50 this month, the UK’s Golden Joystick Awards are celebrating by asking the public to vote on the Ultimate Game of All Time.

The shortlist narrows this down from the several hundred best-of-all-time lists from Edge Magazine and Retro Gamer Magazine, as well as every Ultimate Game of the Year winner of the Golden Joystick Awards since 1983, to a list of 20. to create games.

Gamesradar has stated that they have tried to make the shortlist selection process as rigorous and scientific as possible, and offer the reasons for each selection in the top 20.

Industry experts include Katsuhiro Harada (Tekken series, General Manager), Debbie Bestwick MBE (Team17), Gary Penn (DMA Design, Grand Theft Auto), Shahid Ahmad (former head of Sony’s Strategic Content Division) and many more.

Each of the jurors had the task of forming an individual Top 20 in order to then add themselves to the overall Top 20 shortlist. Evaluation criteria for the personal lists included critical reception, influence, social impact and commercial success.

Gamesradar suggests that the early entry of a series could innovate and even redefine a genre, rather than a newer entry that could be a technical improvement but is more iterative.

As the only mobile game on the list, Pokémon GO is highlighted by Gamesradar because of its “cultural impact and personal significance for the gaming community” and not because of its design.

Some of the other games that compete for price are:

• Pac-Man
• Minecraft
• Tetris
• Street Fighter II
• Portal
• The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
• Solid metal gear

The Golden Joystick Awards will take place on November 23, 2021, so there is still time to vote here.
