Update: VonSoftware Details Official Elden Ring resolution and performance priority modes

Update, 11/08/21:

After speculation about a quality and performance mode discovered via an Elden Ring buy list, FromSoftware has revealed the official specs and compatibility details for the upcoming RPG.

The versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be identical – both have a resolution mode that prioritizes 4K resolution with a 30 FPS lock and a performance mode that prioritizes 60 FPS gameplay with a dynamic resolution, who adjusts during the game to be around 60. to ensure the FPS frame rate remains stable. Both consoles of the new generation will also support ray tracing (via patch) and HDR.

The Xbox Series S supports resolutions up to 1440p and a frame rate of 60FPS (via the performance mode). It also supports HDR but not ray tracing.

Expect a resolution of 1800p, a frame rate of 30 FPS and HDR on the PlayStation 4 Pro. The standard PlayStation 4 doesn’t support HDR, so don’t expect it there. However, you can expect resolution up to 1080p at 30 FPS.

Xbox One X consoles support up to 4K resolutions, HDR and a frame rate of 30 FPS. Xbox One consoles will reach resolutions up to 900p and frame rates of 30FPS in Elden Ring, but HDR will not be available.

Both older Xbox and PlayStation Elden Ring savegames can be transferred to the new generation consoles. However, PS5 saved games cannot be transferred back to a PS4, while Xbox Series X / S saved games can be transferred to Xbox One consoles.

On the PC, the maximum resolution is 4K and the maximum frame rate is 60 FPS.

Original story, 11/5/21:

Elden Ring will have a performance mode and a graphics mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, according to the Collector’s Edition listing on GameStop.

First discovered by PushSquareif you go on the Elden Ring Collector’s Edition list for either PS5 or Xbox Series X, you can find all sorts of details about the upcoming open world role-playing game from FromSoftware. In the “Advanced Experience” section of GameStop’s listing, it says that Elden Ring will have two game modes.

“The power of [the] new generation of consoles, [Xbox Series X/S and PS5] allows gamers to personalize their experience by choosing between the graphics mode to improve the game’s graphics (up to 4K) or the performance mode for a higher frame rate (up to 60 FPS), ”said the GameStop list.

If this is true, it would be consistent with what we’ve seen in other cross-generational titles. Many games released on both previous and new generation consoles have some sort of quality or graphics mode that is more focused on resolution and a performance mode that focuses on higher frame rates on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S aims. Elden Ring with these two game modes would make sense.

FromSoftware hasn’t officially announced anything like this, however, and for now, the GameStop list is the only indication that Elden Ring will have two game modes. Hopefully we will soon learn more about what to expect from Elden Ring’s gameplay on new generation consoles. Elden Ring launches on February 25th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
