Report: Take-Two Interactive canceled a $ 53 million Hangar 13 game

Take-Two Interactive has reportedly canceled a $ 53 million game developed by Hangar 13.

This news comes over Bloomberg, which reports that “people familiar with the decision” have learned that “the development of an unannounced title in the pipeline” has ended. This codenamed Volt game had reportedly gone through several iterations since it was first created, but ultimately the repeated “reboots, technological issues and challenges caused by COVID-19” resulted in its cancellation. Bloomberg reported.

The development of Volt began in 2017 and should revolve around different superheroes competing against each other. It would have put an emphasis on online gameplay.

“It was supposed to be new intellectual property for Hangar 13, but 2K executives didn’t see it as a worthwhile investment as it took so long to develop into a finished product.” Bloombergs Report reads.

At the time of this writing, there have been no layoffs as a result, and Bloomberg reports that Hangar 13 staff will meet on Thursday in Novata, California, where the studio is located, to discuss what happens next.

Bloomberg writer Jason Schreier, who wrote this report, tweeted additional details about the abandoned project and those affected. He said Hangar 13 employees in California heard via email today that Volt has been canceled, and he also noted that some non-US employees learned of this news from his report.

Schreier also said this canceled game was not Mafia 4, which some thought Hangar 13 was rumored to be being developed. He said rumors about Mafia 4 “were always wrong except for their early attempts in 2016-2017.
