Bouncing Balls 2 (Nintendo Switch)

Granted, I don’t play a lot of first-person shooters because I usually find them too bloody and realistic. I like to play Nintendo because it takes me back to my childhood where games were story-driven and had legendary characters with complex missions. Bouncy Bullets 2 has no story or really any characters, but that doesn’t stop it from being a fun game to play.

Bouncy Bullets 2 is set in a colorful Minecraft-like world where everything is a square. You are a first person shooter who uses colored blocks to shoot villains. You have red blocks to shoot at red bad guys and yellow blocks to shoot at yellow bad guys. People with gray squares are allies, and shooting them is elimination. Black Square people are bad guys who need to ricochet a shot off the floor or defeat a wall. You have a race to the end of 90 seconds to get through each level or you finish a time and die.

This game has basic elements of older games (fall in the water, get shot first, run out of time, you die) and is still entertaining. You will respawn right after your death and can try the level again without worrying about ending the game or limiting lives. it loads very quickly too. The levels are divided into the categories easy, medium and difficult and become increasingly difficult with each level. You start just trying to jump across the water and reach the end. From level 16 you avoid laser beams and jump over circular saws that come from the ground. Each level is colorful and lively, and the last, 45, becomes extraordinarily challenging.

Bouncy Bullets 2 has an extremely fast pace. You can fire up quickly in case you have a bad shot. You can jump and shoot, and if you miss you can jump right back up and shoot again. If you accidentally fall into the water, you start over very quickly at the beginning of the level. After completing a level, move quickly to the next with no delay or story mode to break your pace. It’s easy to get into rhythm with this game, and on my first playthrough, I was at level 15 in about 15 minutes.

One of the downsides to Bouncy Bullets 2 is that the first person shoot isn’t perfect. Usually these shots are easier to aim and easier to aim. This game is slightly angled and takes getting used to. Controlling the camera and weapon at the same time can also be cumbersome. When shot at, it is difficult to aim back perfectly at the same time, resulting in many deaths and frustrating reboots. In addition, the level layouts are repetitive a bit

Not every game has to have a story or even an off-level mission. The first person shoot aspect brought me back to Goldeneye 007 and how fun and sometimes challenging it is to get the perfect person shot before getting shot yourself despite the problems with the camera.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a game where you can turn your mind off and play. From playing Metroid Dread to this one, it was like night and day, and it felt good to know the destination and mission right away.

Bouncy Bullets 2 is a very good game for throwing music on and playing aimlessly. Each level becomes progressively more challenging and just when you think you are ready to give up you will find a way to move forward.
