Ubisoft allegations have still not been addressed, staff say

Ubisoft management likely breathed a sign of relief when Activision stole the crown from Blizzard for promoting one of the most toxic work environments in the video game industry. But a group of employees issued a new letter reiterating simple demands that Ubisoft has not yet complied with.

To his credit, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot appears to have a better PR department than Activision Blizzard’s Bobby Kotick, as he made an excellent impression of wanting to make changes by immediately opening third-party investigations and writing numerous mea culpas while Kotick spent a week denying the allegations. Ubisoft also had no lawsuit to deal with, so it was in a better position to sweep things under the rug.

In the end, when many revered Blizzard figureheads got the starting shot, Ubisoft fired some employees and moved Guillemot’s close circle of friends to other positions despite numerous complaints.

Fortunately, the group of employees has not given up. The four most important requirements are outlined below.

  1. Stop promoting and moving known criminals from studio to studio, team to team without consequence. This cycle must be ended.
  2. We want a common seat at the table in order to have a decisive influence on how Ubisoft as a company can progress from here.
  3. Cross-industry collaboration to agree on a set of ground rules and processes that all studios can use to take action against these crimes in the future.
  4. This cooperation must strongly involve workers in non-management positions and union representatives.

It remains to be seen how Guillemot will react to the demands during his next meeting with investors.
