Forza Horizon 5 accessibility settings detailed, American and British sign language coming soon

Microsoft has proven to be the leader in video game accessibility, and the features available in Forza Horizon 5 confirm that status. In a blog post yesterday, Playground Games’ Mike Brown described a wide range of switches and settings that make Horizon 5 playable for the hearing or visually impaired or other accessibility needs.

Brown emphasized the importance of these features in his post and wrote: “We want everyone in the world to experience our game, and with more than 400 million players with disabilities around the world, it is important that all players are able to Designing their gameplay to work best for them. ”Much of the features that were featured come from discussions with the Gaming & Disability community that outlined various barriers to joining the development team. Here are some of the accessibility features described in the blog post, which will be available when published in Forza Horizon 5:

  • A speed change setting that allows players to play Forza Horizon 5 at a reduced speed while playing offline; This feature is great for newbies and those who want more time to advance in the game.
  • High contrast mode that changes colors to make things like menus and text easier for players to distinguish.
  • Color blindness mode, which allows players with color blindness to better visualize game elements. Players can adjust color-blind settings for the user interface and game graphics independently.
  • When it comes to subtitles, we know how important adjustments are. With these you can:
    • Switch subtitles on or off
    • Adjust the font size
    • Adjust the opacity of the background
    • Ability to highlight keywords
  • Adjust the font size of the menu and gameplay.
  • Screen reader narrator who reads aloud text, buttons and other elements.
  • Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text options for players who want to participate in voice chat and need to either send synthesized speech or receive voice chat as synthesized text.
  • Ability to turn off moving backgrounds.
  • Notification Duration setting that allows players to control how long notifications are displayed in-game.

Another important accessibility feature in the works, but not immediately there, is picture-in-picture interpreters for American sign language and British sign language during cutscenes. This innovative option in the AAA game space is slated to be available soon.

Forza Horizon 5 is coming to Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, and PC on November 9th. However, those who purchased the Premium Edition in advance or Game Pass subscribers who pay for the Premium add-on can play the open-world racer starting today.
