Niantic introduces Niantic ID, which allows players to link accounts across titles | Pocket Gamer.biz

Pokémon Go developer Niantic introduced a new method for players to link separate accounts between their titles, Niantic ID.

To start a Niantic ID, players must use one of their existing usernames as their Niantic ID to “lock in”. This ID will then be used as your primary and unique identity for all of Niantic’s titles.

The in-game usernames will not change, however, but existing and future usernames will be linked to the Niantic ID.

Players do not need to open a new account when starting a new Niantic title as their profile and friends list are linked to their IDs.

“Over the years player usernames have become more than just how they present themselves in our games,” said a Niantic spokesman.

“These usernames define who they are to the friends they have made and the communities they have joined by playing our titles.

“As we continue to develop and introduce innovative real-world AR experiences, our goal is to make it easier than ever to manage your identity in Niantic games and the friendships you make through them.”

All Niantic title players are eligible and can claim their Niantic ID until November 21, 2021.

Niantic recently released its newest AR title, Pikmin Bloom, with a gradual worldwide roll out. In Pikmin Bloom, players run around collecting different Pikmin and leaving a trail of flowers.
