Super Mario 3D All-Stars latest update adds N64 controller support for Super Mario 64

While Super Mario 64 may be available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, those who bought the new Switch N64 controller from Nintendo can now use it for the version in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

The use of the N64 controller for Super Mario 64 from Super Mario 3D All-Stars is made possible by the now available update version 1.1.1 of the game. This allows players to “play this title using the same controls as the original Nintendo 64 version”.

The addition of N64 controller support isn’t the first time Super Mario 3D All-Stars has added a new control scheme to one of its games, as Super Mario Sunshine is now playable with GameCube controllers too.

Nintendo tends to add new ways to play to some of its older titles as it has also added Nintendo Labo support for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Nintendo Switch N64 controller, which costs $ 49.99, is only available to those who have subscribed to any level of Nintendo Switch Online. Unfortunately for those looking to try Super Mario 64 as intended, these controllers seem out of stock until 2022.

Speaking of things you can’t get, it’s also currently impossible to buy Super Mario 3D All-Stars on the Switch eShop as Nintendo removed it on March 31, 2021 for some reason.
