Video games are stuck in developing hell: part 2

The development hell doesn’t always have to specify the length – sometimes the development of a game can go sideways in a short period of time. An example of this is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 by publisher Paradox Interactive, a title announced in 2019 that has since been almost canceled, swapped to several developers and much more.

When Bloodlines 2 was announced in 2019, there was a lot of excitement around it. After all, it was a continuation of 15 years. Even after the announcement of Bloodlines 2, things seemed to be moving forward well. It received trailers showing the Brujah clan, the Ventrue clan, complete story videos, and more. Paradox Interactive announced in 2020 that Bloodlines 2 is coming to Xbox Series X, and right after that, the publisher announced that it was targeting PlayStation 5 as.

That’s a lot of content on Bloodlines 2, isn’t it? Certainly the game was well on its way to launch. Well, in August 2020, Paradox and the then developer Hardsuit Labs announced that Bloodlines 2 has been postponed to 2021. Let’s call this moment on the sequel development timeline the moment she entered Hell.

Shortly after that delay, the game’s lead narrative designer Brian Mitsoda and its creative director Ka’ai Cluney announced they had it No longer working on the project at Hardsuit Labs. Two months later, Paradox Interactive announced that Cara Ellison, Senior Narrative Designer for Bloodlines 2, had left Hardsuit Labs.

Fast forward to February 2021 and Paradox Interactive announced that it has fired Hardsuit Labs from the development of Bloodlines 2. One month later Hardsuit Labs suffered layoffs. Corresponding PC player, Paradox Interactive has selected another studio to work on Bloodlines 2, a studio it has not officially named, and Bloodlines’ sequel has been postponed “indefinitely”.

There’s no word on how Bloodlines 2’s development is going right now, but hey, Paradox Interactive announces Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt, a Battle Royale takes place in the same universe as the Bloodlines Game and released for early access so that’s pretty neat.
