GTA 6 development restarted in 2020, chaotic development

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is still a long way off – we already knew that – but it seems like the story could be more than a studio that takes its time. According to the latest rumor from Rockstar Magazine, translated by NeoGAF, the next one is Grand Theft Auto Game is Rockstar’s messiest project to date in terms of development. Things are supposed to be constantly changing and GTA 6 Development was even restarted once.

According to rumours, Grand Theft Auto VI should originally be announced in 2020. Instead, it hasn’t even been officially announced even if we get to the end of 2021. Reportedly, the story and game elements have changed so many times since 2019 that the company has nothing specific to show in a trailer or official announcement. The implication was that the events of the past few years caused history to change, which resulted in Rockstar Games co-founder and vice president of Creative Dan Houser taking an extended hiatus from the company and eventually contributing to his departure. The report goes on to say that when it left Rockstar in March 2020, development continued Grand Theft Auto VI started all over again.

The magazine described the development Grand Theft Auto VI as rockstars most chaotic project to date, even worse than Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto IV. When asked about this, the magazine did not go into detail. You can see the full French interview in the videos below:

Grand Theft Auto VI should appear in 2025 at the earliest, and even that is not yet concrete. Another rumor has it that Rockstar is trying to avoid crunch conditions that have already earned the studio a bad rap, including 100-hour weeks, mandatory overtime, and fear tactics. Reports about this and the disruptive development process all remain unconfirmed at this time and Rockstar has not commented on the rumors.

Other comments from the magazine suggested there wasn’t going to be a remake of Grand Theft Auto IV, at least for the moment. It also suggests the publication of Grand Theft Auto V. for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S could be postponed again to April or May 2022. The new (new) Gen version of the title from 2013 has already been postponed to March 2022 for unknown reasons.
