Beamable Raises $ 5 Million to Expand Service | Pocket Gamer.biz

Boston-based live ops service platform Beamable has raised over $ 5 million following a recent funding round.

The financing round was led by Companyon Ventures and GrandBanks Capital and included the participation of the new investor Gutbrain Ventures as well as current investors such as Defy.

Beamable, formerly Disruptor Beam, was behind the development of Star Trek Timelines, which was later taken over by Tilting Point.

After renaming Beamable, the company moved from developing mobile games to providing backend technology for free-to-play games.

The company intends to use the capital raised to further expand its business operations to support live games.

Understand the needs of developers

“Creating a live game should be as easy as publishing a website,” said Jon Radoff, CEO of Beamable.

“While engines like Unity and Unreal have made creating 3D experiences easier, the workflow and infrastructure to enable gaming with highly developed economies and communities has lagged far behind any benchmark.”

The recently acquired financing brings the company’s total funding to over $ 10 million this year, following a $ 5 million investment earlier this year.

Bob Davoli, Managing Director of Gutbrain Ventures, added, “The Beamable team has a deep understanding of the needs of game developers. We were impressed with how the company creates an authentic culture to make game studios successful.”

Last year, the service provider filed for bankruptcy, filing $ 3.4 million in liabilities and over $ 600,000 in real estate assets. However, the next day the company announced that it would not close despite filing for bankruptcy.
