Switch OLED model scores 2 out of 10 on the screen durability scratch test

The Nintendo Switch OLED has been on the market for a few weeks now, and if you haven’t got your screen protector on, you really should do that.

While Nintendo claims the screen is made of glass, YouTube channel JerryRigEverything has now put the new screen to the test and it only has 2/10 screen protectors – making it as vulnerable as plastic.

“Unfortunately, what we see here are scratches on level three with deeper grooves on level four, which means that this new OLED screen has a plastic surface layer.”

Although the switch contains its own protective layer in the form of an “anti-scatter adhesive film”, this will not do much in everyday use – so it is advisable to buy a suitable screen protector to minimize scratches and damage.

“It’s good to know that the OLED screen is soft so we can’t put it in situations where it can be damaged by coins, keys or other metal objects.

“Nintendo said that the screen itself is made of glass and that this plastic sheet, which is very durable to the touch, is a scattering layer of adhesive that will help keep the shards of glass from scattering if the display is ever broken … and it is probably a good thing to have. “

Nintendo also advises users not to remove this particular protective layer. So again – get a screen protector if you haven’t already to avoid this new system getting into situations where it can potentially be scratched by sharp objects.
