After persistent inquiries, Sora joined Kingdom Hearts Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Earlier this week than that final DLC fighters.

To many fans it still seems too good to be true, so how exactly did it happen? In Sakurai’s latest column (translated from @PushDustIn and @KodyNOKOLO) the Smash director goes into detail about how everything played out. While it was clear after the results of the Fighter Ballot that Sora was a fan favorite, Sakurai himself still considered that to be very unlikely.

That was until one day he had a chance encounter with a Disney rep at a certain venue who said they were all for Sora’s all-star list (it sounds similar to Kingdom Hearts’ original Elevator pitch ). This apparently led to many “long and careful discussions” between Square Enix, Nintendo and Disney.

From then on, Sakurai apparently had to follow many guidelines and overcome many hurdles in developing the character. His team also had some difficulty building the model:

“The first Sora model the Smash team sent to Disney / SE was very high quality and there weren’t many problems … just kidding. It was pretty difficult. “

In the same column, Sakurai also mentioned that Fighters Pass 2 was originally planned with only five characters – like the original Fighters Pass, until Sora’s addition was approved by higher authorities.
