PS5 Pro rumors take off as Sony hires an API graphics engineer to advance “multiple generations” of PS5 hardware

Sony Interactive Entertainment has posted a job ad for a senior software engineer to work on the PS5’s rendering API, fueling speculation that the hardware maker is quietly working on the rumored PS5 Pro.

In this role, the applicant will contribute to the graphics API that powers PS5 games and develop the GPU software stack optimization tools capable of enabling next generation console experiences including 4K resolution, ray tracing and more. The job also mentions that the successful applicant will help design the “Architecture of Multiple Generations of PlayStation Consoles”.

This is a unique and senior position at the core of PlayStation GPU technology. Your colleagues at ATG include the engineers who develop the rendering and ray tracing libraries, GPU tools, shader compilers, and are involved in the architecture of several generations of PlayStation consoles.

The role also includes working closely with other key hardware and software stakeholders so that we can provide game developers with the means to push the boundaries of our platforms.

Previous reports on a PS5 Pro have suggested it will hit the market by 2024 and it will supposedly target 8K games.
