Sony is giving away three free PSVR PS Plus games starting next month

Five years ago, PlayStation VR was unleashed, ushering in a new era of virtual reality gameplay. To celebrate the fifth birthday of the peripheral, Sony is making a gift to all PlayStation Plus members. Starting next month, all PS + members will receive three free PSVR bonus games.

There are no further details on how the promotion will work, although we expect the games to be released on the first Tuesday of each month to coincide with the usual PlayStation Plus Instant Games Collection titles. We’re also not sure how long the promotion will last as similar freebies have only been around for a few months. Sony has promised more information “in the next few weeks”. They have not yet announced which free games are coming to the service.

Since PSVR launched five years ago, more than 500 games have been released for the peripheral. Sony collected the playing hour data for all of these games and published lists of the most played titles worldwide and in all three Sony Interactive Entertainment regions:

Most Played PSVR Games: Global

  1. hobby room
  2. Defeat sabers
  3. PlayStation VR worlds
  4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
  5. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Most played PSVR games: Europe

  1. hobby room
  2. PlayStation VR worlds
  3. Defeat sabers
  4. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR
  5. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Most Played PSVR Games: North America

  1. hobby room
  2. Defeat sabers
  3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
  4. Job simulator
  5. Firewall: zero hour

Most Played PSVR Games: Japan

  1. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
  2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
  3. PlayStation VR worlds
  4. Defeat sabers
  5. Gran Turismo Sport

The two consistent titles in each list are Defeat sabers and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR. Others came close, however hobby room fell off the Japan list while PlayStation VR worlds and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard didn’t make the North American list.

A new trailer not only celebrates the games that made PSVR so successful, but also takes a look at some of the upcoming games, including Wanderer, Puzzle Bommel 3D; Vacation Odyssey, Moss Book II, and After the fall.

Sony is currently working on the next iteration of PSVR for the PlayStation 5. Details on what many people have referred to as the PSVR 2 are scarce, but we know it will increase screen resolution (rumored 4K), decrease the number of cables needed will, and will have a new motion controller. There will also be a “focus on console-quality AAA titles,” with some original PSVR games being remastered for the new peripheral.
