Last year’s festival of the lost event in determination 2 – the in-universe version of Halloween – gave players a seemingly useless gift: the ascendant lens. With no apparent use, many Guardians have removed the item from their inventory as players only have so much space to hold such items. But a full year later, Bungie is offering a neat treat of treats for fans who stuck to their Ascendant lens all year 2021.
In 2020, when guards were still performing the often reused Haunted Forest activity, they could come across a secret search. After Spider opened 45 chests with the special currency of the event, Spider suddenly had a new quest. But talking to the NPC on the Tangled Shore didn’t send players off on any kind of goose hunt. No, Spider simply offered the players the ascendant lens. And it was completely useless for a whole year.
While sitting in the inventory, fans can see that the ascendant lens reads, “A focusing lens from the Dreaming City through which the ascendant plane can sometimes be seen.” Considering the season of the lost in Ascendant Planes and The Dreaming City has a lot to do, it seems that the Ascendant lens was an elaborate and protracted tease for a year – or at least a happy coincidence that worked thanks to The Witch Queen delay.
But when the 2021 Festival of the Lost began on Tuesday, players discovered that Mara Sov, Queen of the Awakened and a key player in the story of the Season of the Lost, had a new quest for patient guardians. If you talk to Mara while holding the Ascendant Lens in your inventory, you will see a wall of text with the heading: Ascendant Lens. Mara is basically telling the Keepers that the tool is useless in their hands, but very powerful in the hands of a techeun – some kind of Awakened Witch. Then she gives the player a bag of Halloween treats and tells them to leave.
The Bottomless Goody Bag contains some special materials, three reels of the new Jurassic Green Pulse Rifle and 21 Spectral Pages – a great benefit for players looking to wrap up this year’s Festival of the Lost.
It’s certainly not a new exotic quest or something really exciting, but it’s nice to see the Bungie Prize determination 2 Players who stayed vigilant and believed that something special could happen. And as Spider and The Tangled Shore will go Fate 2 in The witch queen, it’s great to have one last Easter egg with contentious Eliksni.
