Time flies by when you’re having fun, and it feels like the arrival of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is catching up with us pretty quickly. It was only recently announced in September Nintendo Direct for “late October,” with Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive games added to the line-up.
It will be an optional extension of the standard NSO membership and therefore comes at an additional cost. It also occurred to us today with the welcome message that European subscribers will have the option to use 60Hz versions of the N64 games, albeit only in English.
As a reminder of what we’ll get in the new collections, below are the confirmed grid lines and “future titles” to date:
N64 launch title:
N64 Future versions:
Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Launch Title:
- Castlevania: bloodlines, Cons: Hard Corps, Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine (Puyo Puyo – Japan), Ecco the dolphin, Golden ax, Gunstar heroes, MUSCHA, Fantasy Star IV, Ristar, Luminous power, Shinobi III, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of rage 2, Strider
Across the two systems, the Expansion Pack will therefore include 22 games at launch in North America / Europe, with an additional seven N64 games confirmed to be on the way (while more unannounced N64 and Mega Drive / Genesis games are likely in the future are). If it works the same way as the current subscription and apps, it may also be possible to download the Japanese version of the app (from the eShop with a Japanese non-NSO user login) to get the “Japan Only” -Games on a Western account but we will test this at launch.
The question is, how much do you think we should pay?
As a reminder, below are standard prices for current membership, the NES and SNES libraries, cloud storage, access to online games, and member-only games such as: Tetris 99.
- 1 month – $ 3.99 / € 3.99 / £ 3.49
- 3 months – $ 7.99 / €7.99 / £ 6.99
- 12 months – $ 19.99 / €19.99 / € 17.99
- Family membership (12 months for up to 8 accounts) – $ 34.99USD / €34.99 / € 31.49
Unsurprisingly, the expansion pack will offer less overall, as it simply adds Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive libraries, with all other pieces of NSO included in the standard service (as far as we know – there might be other details not yet disclosed) . Nintendo will be introducing this new “Membership Plan” which will bundle the standard NSO subscription with the Expansion Pack, which will be either an option to purchase a new member or to upgrade existing memberships.
We want your opinion, so let us know how much Nintendo is in the polls and comments should Fee for the additional platforms and games. The prices in the survey ask how much to add to the existing annual NSO price for the content of the expansion pack; Yes you can say ‘free’ if you can Yes, really would like to.
