Genshin Impact has the best month so far | Pocket Gamer.biz

Genshin Impact generated the highest player spend in September 2021.

According to Sensor Tower, Genshin Impact generated $ 341.7 million in consumer spending, overtaking former market leaders Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile.

China’s App Store accounted for approximately 31.6 percent of Genshin Impact’s sales, followed by the US with 21.7 percent and Japan with 21 percent.

The spike in spending on Genshin Impact was fueled by a recent update ahead of its one-year anniversary that saw player spend increase fivefold in seven days.

The game has proven to be a colossal success for developer Mihoyo, grossing over $ 2 billion on mobile devices in its launch year alone.

September 2021 was not only Genshin Impact’s most successful month to date, but also the highest monthly revenue generated from a mobile game this year.

Tencent’s Honor of Kings generated the second highest player spend at $ 209 million, a sharp drop from $ 256 million last month.

The next three top-earning mobile games were PUBG Mobile, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, a new entry on the list, and Candy Crush Saga.

Genshin continues to grow

In total, the global mobile games market generated $ 7.3 billion in the App Store and Google Play in September 2021, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year.

Compared to the previous month, however, global consumer spending fell by 5.2 percent.

The leading market for global wireless revenue was the United States, generating $ 2 billion, or about 28 percent of total spending.

Japan was the second highest contributor at 20.5 percent, followed by China, where Google Play is not available, at 18 percent.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was released on September 9th and was one of the biggest mobile releases of the year, generating $ 138 million in player spend in its first month.

The game is only available in select countries and generated 94 percent of its revenue from China, followed by 3.6 percent from Taiwan and 2.4 percent from Hong Kong.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is the most successful start for a Harry Potter mobile game. Previous titles in the franchise include Niantic’s Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery from Jam City.

By comparison, Hogwarts Mystery generated just $ 300 million in just three years from launch, making Magic Awakened an impressive start.
