Diablo 4’s design director Joe Shely has been promoted to game director.
This message comes through the Quarterly update for Diablo 4 from October 2021 Posted by Blizzard indicating Shely will take over from Luis Barriga, who left the company in August in the midst of a ongoing investigation into details of a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard for toxic work conditions in the company.
“As the design lead who worked on this gritty, open-world collaborative action RPG from the very beginning, I am honored to continue the vision of Diablo IV as the new Game Director, and I am honored to represent it the team puts its heart into this game, ”writes Shely in the quarterly update. “Like many of you, our team has pondered recent events. A lot has happened since our last blog and the hard work to practice the values we strive for must continue. ”
Shely said that Diablo 4 development will continue in parallel with this important work. The rest of the quarterly update revolves around the sound design of Diablo 4. Check out the update for more information on how to do this if you’re interested.
