Sony Electronics has launched a marketing campaign for its BRAVIA XR TV models Z9J, A90J, A80J, X95J and X90J promoting them as “perfect for PlayStation 5” TVs. According to a press release, these models were specially developed for the console and have BRAVIA XR-exclusive features such as Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode.
By the end of January 2022, Sony will release a software update for the PS5 and the above TV sets that will enable Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. In addition, the televisions offer an impressive sound experience on the PS5 with a range of sound systems from Sony, including the HT-A9 home theater system or the HT-A7000 and HT-A5000 soundbars. This also requires a software update, which Sony plans to publish by spring 2022.
An official description of Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode is as follows:
- automobile HDR tone mapping: With Auto HDR Tone Mapping, the HDR settings are optimized immediately during the initial setup of the PS5. The PS5 automatically recognizes individual BRAVIA XR TV models and selects the best HDR setting for the TV accordingly. With the optimized HDR tone mapping level for the customer’s BRAVIA display specifications, important details and colors are displayed even in high-contrast scenes. For example, users get adding detailed objects on the route in Gran Turismo 7 so they know how to take their next step.
- Auto genre picture mode: BRAVIA XR TVs can tell whether users are playing a game or watching movies and series. With automatic genre picture mode, the TV automatically switches to game mode when gaming, which minimizes input delay to make the action more responsive, or to standard mode when watching movies via a streaming service or from an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc on the PS5, shifting focus to image processing for a more expressive image.
