The upgraded version of Quake was released for the Nintendo Switch back in August, and now, a few months later, the game has received its very first “major update” for all platforms.

It includes improvements to the controls, maps, online multiplayer, bots, and many bug fixes. Here are the full patch notes courtesy of Bethesda’s official website:


ALL PLATFORMS

Controls

  • Improved analog stick input on controllers – now more responsive by default
  • Added dead zone, aim acceleration, exponent, and target smoothing options to optimize gamepad input in the input options menu

Map improvements: Dimension of the machine

  • Hell or Dark Water (MGE3M2): Added checkpoint spawns in co-op after the trap section
  • Grave Machine (MGE4M1): Added checkpoint spawns in co-op and fixed pain triggers around pentagrams
  • One Fatal Bug (MGE4M2): Added checkpoint spawns in co-op and pain triggers to prevent them from failing and skipping

General improvements

  • Saving is faster on large levels
  • Hosts are now identified by an icon instead of a color to make it easier for color-blind players to distinguish them
  • The weapon wheel HUD element is no longer clipped on the vertical split screen in local multiplayer

Online multiplayer

  • Removed the visible game limit in the match browser
  • Improved client-side prediction of Scourge of Armagon

Bots

  • Added bot support for the following levels:
    • The Slipgate Complex (E1M1)
    • Castle of the Damned (E1M2)
    • The Chthon House (E1M7)
    • The Elder God Shrine (E4M3)
    • Shub-Niggurath’s Pit (END)
    • The Edge of Oblivion (HIPDM1)
    • The pumping station (HIP1M1)
  • Improved behavior of bot melee attacks, swimming and weapon selection
  • Added text dialogs when bots make kills or are killed
  • Improved bot handling of elevators
  • Improved bot navigation on The Abandoned Base (DM3)

TROUBLESHOOTING

ALL PLATFORMS

Style of play

  • Fixed the backward movement speed being accidentally set to walk
  • Game speed will now reset correctly after using the weapon wheel
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the player to get stuck while jumping out of the water
  • Turning off friendly fire no longer prevents self harm

Audio

  • Fixed a rare audio crash in Scourge of the Armagon
  • Fixed an issue that caused excessive clipping when playing multiple sounds at the same time
  • Fixed an issue where the wrong audio track would play during the Scourge of Armagon demo
  • Fixed an issue where Track 11 would play instead of Track 10 on Gloom Keep (E1M5), The Wizard’s Manse (E2M5), The Wind Tunnels (E3M5), and Hell’s Atrium (E4M5).

cards

  • The Silver Key is no longer displayed in Hell’s Atrium (E4M5) during Deathmatch
  • Fixed an issue where some decals in Scourge of the Armagon were misaligned
  • Fixed a lighting bug in The Door to Chthon (E1M6) that caused the dark path to light up prematurely
  • Dim lighting on the roof to restore the original visual effect of Shub-Niggurath’s Pit (END)

Generally

  • Usernames with quotation marks now display correctly in-game
  • The slate text of the Spanish episode is no longer cut off
  • The texture smoothing setting is restored correctly after disabling the Quake 64 add-on
  • Fixed a bug where the improved ogre model would sink into the ground plane after death

Online multiplayer

  • Fixed issue where sounds would fall off and entities would disappear or flicker while playing online

Bots

  • Fixed an issue where bots couldn’t grab the pickups they needed
  • Bots should now see all triggers and doors as shootable
  • Bots no longer linger in slime or lava for too long
  • Removed bot support on maps without waypoints
  • Fixed an issue where bots would try to reuse one-time buttons and triggers
