From a Square vet who doesn’t think beating up your own party members is good game design.
There’s more than one new RPG for Square’s eShop this month.
During a presentation on the Tokyo Game Show this morning, Square Enix announced a new role-playing game called Dungeon encounters which hits the market on October 14th for 3,200 yen. The English-language Square Enix Twitter has confirmed a worldwide launch.
As the name suggests, Dungeon Encounters is an RPG that focuses on exploring a dungeon, although unlike other games of its kind, the view is an overhead view, not unlike a board game (instead of the first person perspective like them at Etrian Odyssey games and their inspiration, sorcery). Turn-based battles will also be included.
Dungeon Encounters is directed by Hiruyuki Ito, who directed Final Fantasy VI / IX / XII (the last one after the departure of Yasumi Matsuno) and is often referred to as the creator of the Active Time Battle system.
