Niantic acquires developer experience company Hoss | Pocket Gamer.biz

Pokémon Go developer Niantic has taken over developer experience company Hoss for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition of Hoss will help Niantic accelerate and expand its Lightship Augmented Reality Development Kit.

Hoss will support the Niantic developer experience team prior to the launch of the Lightship ARDK and will continue to refine the entire developer experience in the future.

The acquisition of Hoss marks the Pokémon Go creators third major acquisition this year, following the purchase of the community platform Mayhem in January and the 3D scanning app Scaniverse in August.

Address the status quo

“As we prepare to open the Lightship platform to developers around the world, it is critical that we get two things right – both the tools at ARDK to help developers build new experiences and the developer experience as we work together to create this exciting new world of AR experiences, “said Kei Kawai, Niantic’s chief product officer.

Hoss Co-Founder and CEO Matt Hawkins added, “We have repeatedly found that developers are not happy with the status quo when it comes to developer experience and the chance to build on the Lightship developer experience as we look forward to opening up the platform Preparing for developers around the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we are very excited about. “

Last month, Niantic announced that it had stopped development on Catan World Explorers because it had strayed too far from the original game, making things too complicated.
